This past summer, in honor of its first full year in existence, Mango Alley launched a special remix competition of its celebrated first release, Mango Pres. Shoreliners – “Sandcastles.” Numerous artists from around the globe submitted their unique interpretations, so the label was faced with the enormous challenge of picking just three winners, all of whom are featured in this collection. Bale & Voltaire are no strangers to the imprint. The dynamic German duo have captured the beachside essence of the original tune, if not the label in general, with a breezy, melodic progressive rendering. The second remix in the package comes from newcomer Oleg Izergin, whose “cafe” remix provides an even more chilled, downtempo vision. The track opens with the sounds of a gentle surf and the distant voices of a playful group of beachcombers. A familiarly “Balearic” rhythm section is gradually introduced, eventually developing into a quintessential end-of-summer house groove. Finally, Russian outfit “Teeth & Stuff” provide a much more aggressive remix. The “stormy” mood extends through the break, as the bass energy continues to crescendo and a newly added vintage trance synth rains down overhead.
